Voltway: EV Charging & Car Sharing
Voltway is a concept mobile app we designed for EV drivers. It puts finding a charger, paying for the session and picking up a shared car into one dark-mode app.
A fictional product exploration showing interface and interaction design. No live deployment or commercial results are implied.

Who Voltway is for
Drivers of electric cars who charge at public fast chargers in the city, and people who need a car without owning one.
- EV drivers who need a free plug nearby, now.
- Drivers who want to know how long a charge takes and what it costs.
- People who need a shared car for a few hours.
Why EV drivers need one app, not three
Charging an EV often means one app to find a station, another to pay and a third to book a car for the rest of the day. Voltway answers the practical questions in one place: which plug is free, how long it will take and what it costs.
- Show free connectors before the driver sets off.
- Say when a busy connector frees up.
- Keep the session, the receipt and the shared car on one account.
What we designed for Voltway
Map of free chargers
Pins show how many plugs are free. Filters for fast charging, the driver’s connector and stations open now.
Station page
Every connector with its type and power, marked available, free soon or offline.
Live session
Charge level, miles added, ready-by time, power, elapsed time and cost so far, with a push when the car is nearly full.
A receipt that adds up
Energy at the price per kWh, the starting fee and tax, the payment method and the points earned.
Shared car, same account
Voltway Share cars nearby with range, price per minute, an hourly cap and insurance included. The car unlocks from the app.
How a driver uses Voltway
Find a plug
Search near a place and see which stations have free connectors.
Pick a connector
Open the station, choose a free connector and start charging.
Follow the charge
Watch the level and the cost. A push arrives when the car is nearly full.
Pay and go
The session ends with an itemised receipt and points on the account.
Take a shared car
If the day needs a car, the same account unlocks a Voltway Share car nearby.
How we designed the Voltway app
We followed one evening in Denver: one car and one session from the map to the receipt, then a shared car. The screens are laid out in HTML and CSS.
Three questions first
Which plug is free, how long it takes, what it costs: the map, the station and the session answer them.
Dark, with signal colours
Green for free and available, amber for a full station or a connector that frees up soon, grey for offline.
Big numbers where they count
The session screen leads with the charge level and the ready-by time. The details sit below.
One account for both
The account that pays for charging also offers a shared car nearby.
A closer look at the screens

What the Voltway concept does
- Shows free connectors before the driver sets off, and which one frees up next.
- Follows the session live and sends a push when the car is nearly full.
- Ends with a receipt that shows every line of the price.
- Offers a shared car nearby on the same account.
Questions about this project
No. Voltway is a concept project for a fictional product. The data on the screens is invented for the exploration.
