Alma: Natal Chart App with Eight Systems on One Birth Date

Alma is a natal-chart app we designed, built and published ourselves. Eight systems read the same birth data — natal chart, numerology, the tarot birth card, transits, the solar return, compatibility, astrocartography and a cross-synthesis — and the app shows where they agree and where they contradict each other. Forty-one chapters in all.

The brief we set ourselves: every number has to be real, every sentence has to name the position it was read from, and the app must never predict. Positions come from NASA JPL’s DE440s planetary ephemeris, houses are Placidus, and the historical time zone of the birthplace is resolved from an offline gazetteer, so no geocoding service is ever told where a person was born.

One Flutter codebase ships to iOS and Android; the site is Next.js. The backend is FastAPI on Postgres: it computes the charts, keeps the entitlements and sends pushes through APNs and FCM.

The chapters are written by Claude — Opus 5 for the paid chapters, Sonnet 5 for the free ones — and every paragraph passes a validator before it is shown: a paragraph that cites a placement the chart does not contain is rejected and rewritten, and so is a paragraph that cites nothing. Alma also answers questions about the reader’s own chart, three a day free, always.

Monetisation is simple on purpose: every calculation and one complete chapter per system are free forever; what is purchased is the writing — one system as a single purchase, all forty-one chapters as a single purchase, or a subscription for the three systems that move (transits, solar return, compatibility) plus questions. No trial, no introductory price; the store takes the payment. Privacy the same way: no advertising identifier, no third-party analytics, and export or full deletion of the account from Settings.
